The Power of Words

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this video. It’s been viewed over 18 million times on YouTube. I’ve never been able to get past the 1 minute mark without tears welling up. It’s such a strong and profound message.

Our words are like a double edged sword. They have power to change lives. They have power to hurt or heal, to begin and end wars, to build up or tear down, to create peace or incite discord. Our words can break hearts or heal them. Our words are powerful beyond measure.

Change your words

From a young child we were taught to “use our words.” There is nothing in the world that has as much power as our words, but how we deliver those words can have far greater meaning and impact. It’s not so much what is being said, but rather how it’s being said that matters.

As this video illustrates, sometimes we need to change our words and rephrase our message to paint a more compelling picture.

Think twice before you speak

I hope you find as much joy from this thought provoking video as I did, and remember the power your words have throughout your day today. Use your words today to make someone else’s day with random acts of kindness.

  1. Upon visiting The Top Five Percent this morning, first, I viewed the video about ice crystals, and was totally fascinated by the impact that both positive and negative “energy” have on their formation. Then I clicked on the link for our US Debt Clock in Real Time and watched the video on what does a Trillion Dollars Look Like? / What Does 17 Trillion Dollars Look Like?…I should imagine the ice crystals that form after seeing these would be HIDEOUSLY DISGUSTING!!!… Next, I viewed the video about the impact of our words (written and spoken). As predicted, I was teary-eyed after the first minute and was extremely curious as to what the woman wrote on the blind man’s sign that made such a profound difference, changing him from seemingly invisible to passers-by, to a shining star one dare not ignore! May we all learn how to use our words to make the world a better place.

Steve, thank you SO much for taking the time to create “The Top Five Percent” and for sharing these valuable lessons with us. I would encourage everyone who visits this site to view EVERY link. It is well worth your time!!! Well done!!!

    • Thank you Kim. These videos and articles are about personal ideas of mine that I hold close. I suspect you are right, the ice crystals that would form after words about the mountain of debt that is crushing our world would be absolutely horrible so to see. This site is my priority now and I have lots of great posts and videos and all kinds of things planned. Please come back often.
